Kanakert / Zyuten, Division. 2pm.
It’s about time, people where getting sacred about me disappearnce. That’s when Onnik had blog about, how I was out of reach.
One concerning bit of news, although as of yet unconfirmed, is that fellow blogger Nanyaar? might be among those Indians with police. Certainly, nobody has heard from him for several hours and his mobile phone is switched off.
The officer walked in after his assistant had done the preliminary tasks of getting every scarp of detail they could about me and my friends, we were four of us, three of us the main witness, and the other good friend of Prashant Anchalia.
And then the question was asked, “What Hindus do to a body, after a person is dead? Do they burn them?” It came as a shock to me.
Earlier, Zyuten, Hotel, 7th Corpus. 1pm
Frank rushed into the internet centre, and asked me to step out as he had just seen someone fall from the sixth floor. I was the second witness to the incident and while I was trying to get help, Kuldeep rush towards him. The ambulance was called for, and we were not allowed to even touch Anchalia for 10 whole minutes by out hostel warden, little did I realize that later that day I was going to understand the real meaning of every minute spent in my life.
We could see that he was finding it hard to breathe and had to put him in the recovery position, against the hostel warden’s shouting. His breathing became better, the pulse steady but he was fighting for his life. His legs were broken, a deep cut in the forehead from which a pool of blood was forming, and also occipital bone seemed to be cracked. He definitely had to have fallen in a sitting position.
The dean for foreign student arrived, a doctor herself, and did nothing but watch his helpless bodies fight against pain.
The ambulance arrived; 40 minutes later, by now a crowd had been formed. I was told later; that 3 minutes after the ambulance departed he had passed away.
Anchalia
He was a quiet guy. Never spoke much, confided to his room, small circle of friends and I remember the bargain he had got on an old yellow Armenian guitar on which he used to practice. Just two days back he had asked me if I was going to sing this time at the Garoon (spring) festival, and that he was planning to. The media had portrayed him as a drug addict and a psychologically affected person which he definitely was not.
At the university
The death comes in as a surprise and the news of the ambulance reaching there after 40 long minutes and the negligence of the hostel warden and dean makes the angry Indian student body to meet the Rector, Gohar Kjalyan. Students refuse to meet her in the Red hall and demanded for an answer to be given right there, she walks away and when the Indian girls go and talk with her,she just abuses them, Indian girls to be prostitutes and shows both her middle fingers.

It is WAR now:

We have a strong hold of 800 Indian Students here, among which 300 are girls. The parliament house in Bagaramiyan Streetis crowded with us, students. “Gohar down, down”, “Shame on you, Rector” and “We want Justice” were still the slogans that was ablaze after I was released from the interrogation centre.

The students had been there right after the little meeting with the Gohar. It was clear to everyone present there that she was a person against other nationalities and Indians for one she very much detested. I don’t know if it’s because her relative is Minister or her husband owns a local channel which gives her the idea that she can do whatever she pleases.
Like Onnik writes…
If this incident had happened to an Armenian in Samtskhe-Javakheti, nationalists would be screaming for war with Georgia. Because it happened to an Indian student, nobody cares. Or at least, they don’t for now, because one thing that is evident is simply that the Indian students have guts and act like youth the world over.

I don’t understand why the internal ministry’s men had to be over there for group of Students who were protesting.
The vice-chairman of the National Assembly came over to speak with the students and took with them some representatives, the Indian ambassador was now already in the NA chambers.
It was 10 minutes to eight when I and frank were allowed to go. People had already been calling us and updating us about the happenings from the afternoon.
This police station was no different, by the time I finished giving my testimony, I had been questioned and cross questioned by almost a dozen of men of whom I suspect only two to be real officers, others where interested about whether the police in India took bribe like they did here and if Kuldeep had any porno in his N70. After trying to frighten me with stupid statements ranging from “did you kill him?” to “we will deport you”, they were tired.
The crowd was to say, in more vigor than ever, it was not a just a mere group; it was a Nation out there.
Finally at 10pm it was decided that they will be meeting in the University Red hall. Questions were raised which only resulted in diplomatic answer by the Vice chairman of the NA. The education ministry tried to come on stage and give a politician’s speech by quoting “don’t you want to know what really happened to your friend?” But all we needed tonight was for her the rector to resign and actions to be taken on the dean who as a doctor did nothing to see her student dying in front of her. The Rector apologized at 12 midnight, and she still could not understand what we wanted, while she thought she could just walk away. All Madam Indian Ambassador did was to sit next to the VC and give him tips on what and how to talk to the Indian students.
It was 1:50 am and we had not come to a conclusion, tomorrow will not be a working day for us Indian students, the body will be there for final viewing at 9 am before it is sent to India. I will be out there to say good bye to this friend I’ve lost from Silligudu, West Bengal. It’s now 4:58 am. I think I will have to come back and write another post on the conversation, we had in the Red hall. As me and some friends took a taxi after the meeting, the driver asked us what had happened. And my friend replied, “Nothing it was just bad today, it’s still going to get worse”.

[...] Nanyaar, an Indian student blogging in Armenia, has posted a chronological account and more info of the death of the Indian student and his personal experience of the day. Nanyaar, I really feel for it, I’m with you, Take care of yourself. Your spiritual state is so familiar to me. Don’t pay much attention to what people may gossip here, they are used to spreading nasty rumours. Be ready to listen all the possible variants about his death, just you all be able to withstand them… http://lifearoundme.wordpress.com/2006/03/18/nothing-has-the-price-of-life/
Don’t give up
I learned about what was happening when I heard a crowd of protesters proceeded down Abovyan Street towards Republic Square Thursday afternoon, then I stopped a student to ask what had gone on. Shortly therafter I called Onnik and he went down to the Parliament building to cover what was occuring. I want to say that I am sorry about what happened to your friend. And that he was mistreated after the accident obviously was unacceptable.
what will be the fate of 800 students who had put (till now ) all there faith in a university run by doctors and who is not able to save a guy and let themselves see a soul dying …
how can someone count on a lady who being an a post of highest dignity and after such an incident inspite of listening the students understanding their grief … she is abusing them
how can someone count on a the dean of the university and the warden of the hostel who saw a soul begging for his last breaths for 50 minutes … and died on the door of hospital …
who will gurantee the safty of far from abode students living in this country …. ?
come on guys! keep it up ..! show them what indians are and what they can do…! we are there with u …! how did they abuse our girls…! they are the pride of india!
rock them…!
hey guys,
i got this news from one of friend in the same institute….. this is unbeleivable that the dean herself was standing idle and let the boy scream for help…
U guys are doin great job….. go ahead and show them the prove them what we indians are………!
Take care guys.
PS- There’s a typo in the very first link to Onnik.
what happened here was outrageous…that which is happpening now is what that matters..we r united until now..i hope we stay the same..we must teach that sadistic woman a lesson..we must not be violent..put demonstrate our protest in a manner that does not turn inhumane like the way our dean watched our friend die..or like the way the woman in the highest degree of respect in our university behaved…violence is not going to solve anything…but nonviolent movements can do better…plzz our friends in india..help us to defeat this evil that is happening here..support us as even the embassy here itself are not backing us up..
this s inhumanity thing from a dean of foreign dep. a docter, who watched hw prasanth was dying minute by minute fearing about the cases than preferring him a first aid.. this s real bull shit… is she a human ? God, plz grace her…
our new rector who s our care-taker after ambassador had raised her fingers to mean something with the signs, there came the big issue while v tried to seek the justice upon the dean’s responce as soon as she seen that incident… without hearing anything she did much with her middle fingers … every one roared.. but whatz the use.. simply walked to the next higher authority at 5.30, the president.. for the help……
ther came the real expectations after a long time at 10.30 from every one of us when a meeting was arranged by the ambassador of india with the vice-chairman of the armenian parliament with some of the cabinet ministers and our new rector…. but our hopes really ended in vain…. when she refused to accpet the things she did with her fingers in front of 250 indian girls…. the minute i cudnt belive my eyes… are they true or powerless…? unbelievable….. unbearable….
this s proudy, v indians about 800 tied with the same thought counted every hour almost for 12 hours with the a wish that v wud be helped, struggled a lot for the young life that departed ruthlessly… what v got till nw …..F*** !!!
whther v ll be safe be4 the revenges by the rude, well backgrounded lady, our new rector? who s going to take responsibilty for that young life….?
we are destroyed to feelings and emotions….. whats gonna to happen next.. a revenge ???? or a compensatery move by the indian govt..?
Gr8 job senior..! well done!!! provoking…
This Incident that took place in Armenia has really shocked all of us out here. A medical student died due to lack of medical care .Really sad and disturbing. The administration should do something about it. All my friends out there we are with you. May God be with all of you .

Friends, please keep me updated I can inform this tragic incident to all indian community living in United States. Let us know how indian students in US can help?
My condolences to the Anchali family and his friends.
It should not matter what the cause of death was, what does matter is that the rector and other government structures in Armenia failed to provide reasonable help that could have saved his life.
It makes no difference who the rector is married to, she should be made to answer for her actions and not only should she have to resign, but criminal charges should be filed against her.
Please don’t back down for any reason with your struggle for justice. Though there is nothing that will bring Sandi back, out of respect for and so this type of thing does not happen again, push to make sure that those responsible for his death will be punished.
I wish you all the luck and if there is anything I can do, please let me know.
Dear Indian and Armenian students from the medical university, and friends of Prashant. I am veeery sorry that our republic treated you this way and iskapes cavum em. I feel very bad about it, I don’t know if you all know but my mother was his Armenian porfessor-Madam Gayane Davtyan, and she told me that Prahsant neeever did drugs or would ever even think about commiting suicide-like most of the stupid idiots say. I agree that you MUST kick out the dean for not helping that poor boy. It wasn’t HIS faut, it’s not fair to just leave a dying boy on the ground because he’s not Armenian, or he’s not YOUR child, friend etc. If you need any help with any other protest or anything PLEASE contact me I am rady to help allll the way. May he rest in peace, and you were right as you wrote at the Red HAll under his photo: god saw everything, the sky was crying, request from god……

The news of death of Prashant came as a total shock 2 all of us.though we are now back in maldives,we try 2 keep in touch wth our friends in armenia n be aware of wats happenin 2 our fellow students.
it is of deep regret n sorrow wat the dean n rector has done.they r really devils n pathological liars,we know that indeed very well.
we also want something good 2 happen foreign students.so far they have just been taking advantages of all.so just stick togethher this time n b firm n strong n v r sure insha’allah u will win n get ur justice.
may God bless the soul of Prashant n our deepst condolences n symathies to his family, relatives n friends.
its will always b hard 2 lose a loved one n it is also hard 2 know he was some one we used 2 c everyday, though v might not hav been close friends.
Well Hi and congrats to all my fellow friends struggling out there for their victory. felt a relief to hear that Rector has asked soory for her actions. and has called for a meeting with students on tuesday to decide the fate of dean and hostel warden. the war is not over yet . stay united my friends . today we will suffer a little but if we let go loose now, we will loose the battle for justice. we have come one step down by forgiving Rector , but this is not the end. we need proper medical facilities for all (Indians /Armenians/Foreign nationals)
Dear friends forget what happened in past think of future. No one has the right to treat us like dogs. We are humans and should be treated by humans. So remember If we stay together for even a small cause , we are strong. Make sure that there is no change in rules of univesity (they can make some very strict rules to follow)There can be some restigations /course repeats etc…… They are already increasing fees .some of you may be rich enough to pay it but think about those who are from middle class families and have taken loans to pay tution fee. What will bcome of them?????? Stop all this before it becomes a nightmare, and take life of another one of us. Today we have won just a battle ,war is still on. And we have to still fight for our rights . Stay together friends …………………..love you all and thank you all for your support and help….
a special thank to the one person who was with us all the time and who covered all the incidents by his camera -ONNIK & NANYAAR(I know you very well) THANK YOU AND YOUR TEAM FOR YOUR KIND SUPPORT AND STRUGGLE. BYE FOR NOW SEE YOU ALL ON TUESDAY.
Today parshant anchalia is not physically present between us but his presence will be felt during the whole period of our live’s.
my condolences to the family n friends of Prashant. it was a shock to hear about the death of a fellow student.
the behaviour of the rector is disgusting to say the least and I hope you guys stick to the cause till you get what you want.
it is good to hear that rector said sorry about all the matter.
but our main aim was to punish the guilty, to boycott the classes till they take necessary action against the guilty in 5 days, but this aim is diverted……………sad. 2nd aim was to force rector to give sorry in the written form, which is now achieved……………………..sad. but whatever it is, now we should be united to achieve these 2 main goals.if we attend tuesday’s class, all our hard work will be ruined.
we should remember some points before going for meeting:—————->
1) rector should say sorry in front of everyone and also in written form.
2) investigation and action against guilty (dean, hostel warden, hospital administration) before friday othervise we will boycott the classes.
3) good medical and first aid facilities in hostel and a good ambulance for students.
if we achieve these three goals, then it is worth othervise there is no use of all what we did.it will be wasted.
think about this…………………………………………..

My son Manik Tikoo is also studying in the same University. He is presently in 2nd year .I and his mother had been continuously kept informed of the incident. Needless to say the death of a young trainee is absolutely shocking, particularly the circumstances under which Anchalia was allowed to die, that too in a Medical college. At my level I called cnn/ibn newsroom and gave the the gist of the incident, but they did not cover it. The Rector’s behaviour and the kind of language she used against the girl students and Indians in general is absolutely condemnable. I suggest that you people should write a petition and get it signed by all the students and send it to Mr Shyam Saran, the Foreign Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs, Govt of India
As one of those students who regretfully saw what happened with sadness and madness at the same time from such kind of treatment to at least who we consider a human being.
First of all, I’d honestly like to say thanks for all of those who were part of this and who are still trying their best to make it work out. Second, I want from everyone who’s supporting this matter to know that it’s not an Indians struggle only and that it’s not their own fight, it’s ours too, I mean us every student in YSMU to achieve justice and to know for sure that what happened to our mate won’t happen again to anyone. Simply this matters anyone who can identify right from wrong and who can do something about it, there’s much to say, but let me end by “The question is not whether we will die, but how we will live.”
Hi guys, its really shocking wat happened there…my heartiest condolences to the Achali family n may the departed soul peace in rest…don’t worry guys!! God is with u n he ll punish the people who deserve it, in a very bad way…take care !!
i, as a mother of a student who is studying in yerrevan medical college find this tragic incident very painful may god bless his soul and may god give his parents strength to go through this torture and pain we as parents of indian students are with u follow the path of nonviolence and dont neglect ur studies for which u all have gone there . also see to it that ur friend aanchalia gets justice have faith in god damn it u r indians show the world of what stuff indians are made of show them that u r made of steel but remember one thing that everything should be done peacefully may god bless u all
today is ARMENIAN GENOCIDE DAY. lets go there and pay our respect.all of you are requested to go there.
hi everyone there…its really pathetic..i also agree with a point that the rector has to be punished…because being a doctor she should however try to save an life at any cost.. which is more important than any other things in his life and moreover she is dedicated to that kind of a noble profession…she had failed in her duties… and she should be guilty of her doings throughout her whole life…and i[an medical student] and my co students here in india express our deepest condolences to everyone there and the family of master.prashanth..and its really great to see the students united together..hats off to every one…
very much griefed. But thanks to guys like u the culprists wont get away with it.if u guys want it we can hi light the issue here in indian media so that our concerned government department can act accordingly and put pressure on them.I m with u guys.

Honestly I want to ask, why is this INDIANS’ issue?!!! It’s not just Indians’ matter, this concern all of his mates in the same medical university, isn’t it?!!!
Hello to Yerevan students,
My nephew, Manik Tikoo, is presently studying at Yervan Medical College and needless to say I am extremely worried about the quality of care this college has to offer to its students. I live in USA and it is not that this kind of incidents can be completely avoided by colleges but rather what kind of procedures the college has in place to PREVENT such things from happening and if and when thay do happen, what is their emergency response procedure? I see two issues going on here: one is neglect and carelessness on the part of the authorities and the other is discrimination. So, your approach should also be two pronged. Remember, first of all, calm down and make sure you whatever you do is peaceful and rational , if you want the most results. Put your complaints down in writing and get advise from some adults, may be your parents. It seems like the doctor lady in charge must be disciplined by the university’s President and you should also meet with the Indian Ambassador.
Take care and stay safe and do not be irrational and remember you are there for your education. The best thing is to have a group of parents reach Armenia ASAP because the college will have to pay attention to parents while they may tend to ignore the students. We can have funds collected to cover the travel cost. Try that.

what can i say after such a tragic incident. but i beilive only 1 thing that indians hav a fire in them and we will burn everything which will come across us.only thing needed is that we should be united and together and i know that we are whomsoever may say anything.
prashant was silent and introvert type of personality. my interaction with him was limited to salution and exchange of lighters.but still i can feel his presence on 6th floor.his smiling face is unfogettable for me and i promise from my soul that the culprits will not be forgiven. even they can hide in god’s territory.

I’ve just read this post and I want to say how sorry I am for what happened. Racism should not be tolerated…. how could somebody live with themselves after letting somebody die without trying to help if it was within their power to?
I really hope everything works out and that you Indians get the justice that you deserve.
I don’t know the purpose of this provocative blogs but if you don’t like the treatment in Armenia you can go back to your country.
Go back to India and study there rather than living in Armenia and making anti-propaganda in an ungrateful manner.
Accidents happen everywhere. In your India australians were burnt alive not long ago in a preplanned manner. Why don’t you write about that moron?
Radovan,
That is what exactly Russians tell us, Armenians, if you don’t like that we kill you go back to Armenia!
Indians are making propaganda? How is that? Their guy died in our country, they protest and that is called propaganda? What exactly should they be “grateful” for?
The purpose of such blogs is to tell to us,Armenians what exactly going on in OUr country since your beloved Govt covers everything up!
My condolences to all Indians;-(
I also mourn for the Indian student, because what was done was not the act of Armenian Nationalism. It was done because of stupidity and ignorance. Unfurtenetly If Armenia had a nationalistic goverment this wouldn’t be tolerated at all, and that stupid rector would be fired. Armenian Nationalists in U.S. are with you, keep demanding rights for your people, because after all we are both Aryans.
Ani and Sarkis
Please let that stupid national liberalism aside, coz its fake, imported and not relevant to this case … an indian student killed himself , he was mentally ill, had a cursh on someone or whatever, don’t get too excited and carried away with the indian expat crowd, the guy’s suicide is not the rector’s fault, not the government’s fault and not armenian nation’s fault and neither its our biggest cause,
you don’t have to turn this into a big national tragedy…
and Sarkis, for God’s sake what are you talking about..what armenian nationalism and what ignorance…your comment is totally irrelevant
